OVERPRINTS
OF 1920

The overprinted issue was made to provide stamps for the increase
of Postal Tariffs from July 1, 1920. The 1 Mark value was intended
for domestic postcards and the 2 Marka for domestic letters.
1 Mk. OPT.
The overprinting was made on stamps of the Sun Design and Panorama
of Tallinn issues (15 and 35 penni resp.). The black OPT - 1 Mk. and
two control period markings - was typographed by the A/S Ühiselu
in Tallinn and applied to the whole printing sheet of 400 stamps.
The same plate was used for both values. Due to wear and tear the
OPT is often faulty and numerous printing errors have been recorded.
The OPT is also often strongly shifted.
The Post Offices were mostly supplied with ahorizontally cut sheets
of 200 stamps (with gutter), and less frequently with a pane of 100
stamps. The issue is imperforate. Postmaster perforations are known,
and also forgeries.
Valid until June 30, 1926.
2
Mk. OPT.
The overprinting was made on the 70 penni value of the Seagull issue.
The blackOPT (old values overprinted with two lines + 2 Mk. and two
control period markings) was typographed by Joh. & Alma Paalmann
in Tallinn and applied to a whole printing sheet. A pane of 100 or
horizontally halfed printing sheets were sold at the P.O.-s. The OPT
is often faulty and strongly shifted.
The issue is imperforate. Postmaster perforations are known, and also
forgeries. In recent years a pair with forged OPT on one stamp only
has appeared,
Valid until June 30,1926.
